Prescott is zoned strictly as a Residential District. As is, there is no allowance for any type of commerce taking place in our city. Our city code states that permitted uses for a residential district include single family dwellings, accessory buildings common to a residence and home gardens only.
Conditional uses of residential property may be permitted if proper procedures are followed. “Conditional uses of property, because of their unique nature and the effect on the comprehensive plan may be permitted, provided that such use would not be detrimental to adjoining properties or to the purpose or intent of the comprehensive plan.”
The city code verbage is very specific. Prescott residents seem to especially value their privacy and have chosen to live here because of it. The city council followed the original intent for our city in making our recommendations for those wanting to operate an AIRbnb in our community.
Those who want to use their home/property as a short term rental in Prescott must submit an STR Conditional Use Application for review before any permit shall be granted. We've put together all the pertinent information in a step-by-step guide that includes everything you need to know.
